Sulgi received a very special award for her citizenship within our little school. The figurine was very kindly donated to us by Jane Ann Liston and I was asked to find a worthy recipient. Most things people do at DSA have their own rewards - exam success, audition success, Saltire awards, CAS, Duke of Edinburgh, for example. But Sulgi shows a thoughtfulness and sense of community beyond her years. She is always the first to help new pupils settle in, be kind to her classmates and even helps me with the music. She is dedicated to performing in our community and has danced at care homes in St Andrews and Cupar (which we love to do to bring the joy of dance to those who can't get out to see us). You are a worthy recipient of this amazing award, Sulgi, and we are all super proud of you.
May 2024
Congratulations to our wonderful pupils who came along this afternoon to collect their exam awards. You are all amazing and I was delighted to see your faces when you received your trophies and medals. We had 112 exams this year which is an amazing number and every one was an absolute success.
Our little dance school has been featured on That's TV Scotland for our work with care homes (see link below). We regularly perform in care homes and lead classes there. This year we also have a number of residents coming into the Buchanan Theatre to watch our dance show as well as releasing the filmed performance to them. Our care home journey is a link between the dance school and work carried out at University of St Andrews and this began pre-pandemic where, with colleague Maggie, Gayle ran a week of arts activities (including dance) for people living with dementia at the Byre Theatre - best week ever! In their academic roles, Paula and Gayle have now successfully been awarded funding to explore the benefits of dance for our physiology and wellbeing so watch this space for more academic/ dance link ups😀. We are also proud to have received funding from both University of St Andrews and St Andrews Community Trust to support our care home work which is receiving this attention.
Dance St Andrews has been delighted to support our pupil Gabriella D through her MYP community project working with local care homes to deliver dance-based exercise classes and performances.
