Uniform

Dance St Andrews’ uniform is based on simple and flexible elements that pupils will need for classes, performances and exams.

All uniform, except pointe shoes and Highland shoes, must be purchased from our on-line store: https://dsa.mydancestore.co.uk/

We also encourage members to sell second hand uniform using our closed Facebook group.

During the pandemic we relaxed uniform rules but we now require pupils to wear the appropriate class attire. We ask that all pupils wear a leotard, dance tights with optional ballet skirt or shorts to class. Only ballet cardigans, DSA T-shirts or plain T-shirts with no logo may be worn. Strictly no baggy track suit trousers or jumpers.

For exams and performances the correct leotards and shoes as available from our dance store (except pointe and Highland shoes) are required.

Ballet

Black leotard, black footless tights/ pink ballet tights, pink ballet shoes (with elastics). Optional – black ballet skirt. Senior pupils who require pointe shoes must go and have these professionally fitted. For examinations, pupils will require pink full sole ballet tights. Boys wear black dance leggings or shorts with white T-shirt and black ballet shoes.

Tap

Black leotard, black footless tights, black trainer socks, black tap shoes (with elastics). Shoes must be jazz-style tap shoes. Optional – black dance shorts. Boys wear black dance leggings or shorts with white T-shirt and black tap shoes.

Jazz

Black leotard, black footless tights, black slip-on jazz shoes (no laces). Optional – black dance shorts. Boys wear black dance leggings or shorts with white T-shirt and black jazz shoes.

Highland and National

Black leotard, black dance shorts, knee-high socks, black highland shoes with elastics. Senior dancers may wear black leggings in place of the shorts and socks. Boys wear black dance leggings or shorts with white T-shirt and black highland shoes.

When ballet dancers are ready for pointe shoes, it is imperative that these are professionally fitted. There are two excellent fitters in the area that Dance St Andrews recommends: Arabesque in Perth and Edinburgh Dancewear.

We recommend the following suppliers for the purchase of Highland shoes as these have the correct fitting and protection to protect the feet from the high impact of this form of dance: Arabesque in Perth; Edinburgh Dancewear, James Senior of Glenrothes and Toe and Heel.
